‘Pipedreams’ comes to Independence – On Thursday, the American Public Media program “Pipedreams” will be at the Community of Christ Auditorium, 1001 W. Walnut Ave. It's a come-and-go event from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. It features seven young performers from the world of classical pipe organ who have recently won regional competitions across the U.S. The event also includes organist Michael Unger premiering the final pieces in the “Pipedreams,” commissioned set of "Preludes and Fugues in Jazz Style" by Henry Martin. Independence Day at Missouri Town 1855 – 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today. Patriotic speeches, children’s games, period cooking, dancing, militia marches. Everyone is invited to join with the staff and volunteers as they march down the main road in the traditional Missouri Town Independence Parade. Missouri Town is at 8010 E. Park Road, Lee's Summit. Red, White & Blue Springs – The festivities will be held today at Blue Springs High School Peve Stadium, 2000 N.W. Ashton Drive. Gates open at 6:30 p.m., with live entertainment by Michael Dale and Monica Pearce at 7:30 p.m., followed by fireworks at approximately 9:45 p.m. Admission is free.

Moonlight Movies on the Square – "Paddington 2" will be shown Thursday on the side of the Pharaoh Theatre, 114 W. Maple Ave., Independence. This event is from 7 to 11 p.m., with the moving beginning at 9 p.m. Concessions available. Chairs may be rented for $1 or bring your own.

Trail Toys – Ever wonder what children did for fun on the Oregon and California Trails? Now's your chance to find out. Children can make a toy at the museum, just like they did on the westward trails, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays in July, at the National Frontier Trails Museum, 318 W. Pacific Ave., Independence. A different toy will be featured each week and there will be old-fashioned toys available for children to play with. Free with museum admission.
