Three people were injured in a shooting Wednesday evening during Fourth of July festivities in an Independence cul-de-sac, and police have two suspects in custody.
The shooting happened about 8 p.m. Wednesday outside apartments in the 13000 block of 35th Street Court. When officers arrived, they found three victims, one of them a 16-year-old boy, with non-life threatening injuries. Police interviewed several witnesses.
Police are not looking for any other suspects, and the case remains under investigation.
• No injuries were reported from a house fire late Wednesday in western Independence.
Firefighters from four stations responded to the fire about 10:11 p.m., according to the city, and the fire was under control within 25 minutes.
The Red Cross was requested to assist two adults, and the fire is under investigation.
