Marketing personnel at Pacific Retail Capital Partners, which took over management of Independence Center months ago, have announced updates to the site.

Lutfi’s Fried Fish, a local chain with locations in Kansas City, Independence, Raytown and Blue Springs, is expected to open in late July. The Southern-inspired seafood eatery will feature menu items like catfish and whiting, alongside traditional sides like hush puppies and red beans and rice.

Independence Center also recently welcomed Angry Bull Subzero Dessert Company, which sells nitrogen-infused desserts. The trendy sweets release a fog that looks like dragon’s breath from the mouth and nose, making them popular on Instagram and other social media.

Pacific Retail says it is pursuing tenants for the former Applebee’s location and will announce another restaurant opening soon.

Alongside these eateries, The Classy Way Boutique’s upcoming opening will mark a new retailer.

The operator says its goal at Independence Center is to strike a clearer balance between food and apparel purveyors, and to create an “experience” for visitors.

The management team also highlighted a focus on building community partnerships. As part of an effort with the Mid-Continent Public Library, the mall hosts a monthly book club the third the third Wednesday of every month.

Pacific Retail also has established partnerships with the Community Blood Center and the Independence Parks and Recreation Department, resulting in the center hosting a blood drive Aug. 3 and the annual Touch-A-Truck Festival – at which attendees can interact with military, fire and police vehicles – on Sept. 29.
