A man shot Tuesday evening by Independence Police after he allegedly produced a gun during a foot chase remained in the hospital Wednesday.
Police continue to investigate the incident, which happened about 8:30 p.m. on the city’s eastern border, near Oak Hill Cluster and Missouri 7, where the Harvest Hills residential area is south of the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant.
The suspect, a man in his 40s, has not been publicly identified by police, pending possible charges.
According to police, an officer approached a car that was parked and occupied, and the suspect (the driver), jumped out and ran and allegedly displayed a gun, at which point one of the pursuing officers shot him. A female passenger also was in the car.
No officers were injured in the incident, and one officer has been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
