The City of Independence Environmental Health Division conducts inspections anywhere food is handled, prepared and served to the public within city limits. Critical violations must be handled within 72 hours.

• La Fuente Mexican Restaurant, 2325 S. Missouri 291 – On Aug. 7, food was being washed in the hand sink and two large pans of chicken fajitas and beans that were cooked the day before were found at 65 and 64 degrees.

• Corner Cafe, 4215 S. Little Blue Pkwy. – On Aug. 8, a member of the kitchen staff was not washing his hands at proper times and attempted to put on gloves without first washing his hands.

• La Casa Mexico, 19321 E. U.S. 40 – On Aug. 8, a kitchen staff worker had an inappropriate facial piercing; a ticket may be issued on the next occurrence. The hand sink on the cook line had a spoon in basin, a wiping cloth was found in the hand sink in the bar and soap and drying toilet tissue were in another hand sink. Disposable paper towels were not at each hand sink and the dispenser at the hand sink on cook line was empty.
