Adam Norris, who has been assisting Independence City Hall as a contractor for the last month, will join the city full time as an assistant city manager, effective Nov. 1.
Norris will replace Lauren Palmer, who left last month for a position with the Mid-America Regional Council. He has been helping the city through Shockey Consulting in the Human Resources Department and will continue part-time with the city until Nov. 1.
Norris has been a management consultant with Shockey since January after serving as deputy city administrator of development in Blue Springs. He has also worked in city management at Mission Hills and Overland Park in Kansas and at Dallas.
Norris graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and from the University of Kansas with a master's in public administration. Outside of work, he is a volunteer youth soccer coach and a den leader and cubmaster with Scouts.
“I have greatly enjoyed getting to know the City of Independence and its employees through my work with the Human Resources team,” Norris said in a city press release. “I look forward to the challenges ahead as we continue to work on Independence for All and the forward momentum being built here in Independence.”
