Lord’s Acre Sale at Oakland UMC
Oakland United Methodist Church, 30701 E. Truman Road, Independence, will host is annual Lord's Acre Sale on Saturday. The event recalls the days when church members set aside an acre's worth of produce sales to give to the church.
Items available for auction will include a hand-stitched quilt from the Oakland Ladies Aid Society, handcrafts and woodwork, baked good, fresh eggs and vegetables and fruits, jam, jelly and “open-fire” apple butter. Lunch of chili dog or sloppy joe sandwich, baked beans, potato salad and choice of homemade pie will be served 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., when the auction begins.
Stone Church celebrating Scouts
Stone Church Community of Christ in Independence will be celebrating Scout Troop 223 at Sunday's 10:20 a.m. service. The presider will be Ronald Yager Jr., with music from Clare Vlahos and Mary Buxbaum.
There are three events this weekend by the Historic Sites Foundation. Storytellers Night at 7 p.m. Friday; Devotion and Zion: Exploring Our Attempts to Build Community at 8:30 a.m. Saturday; and “Singing the Old and New Songs of Zion” at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Cancer support program at Timothy Lutheran
Timothy Lutheran Church, 301 E. Wyatt Road, Blue Springs, is offering a nine-session program, “Cancer Companions,” that runs the first and third Wednesdays (6-8 p.m.) through Feb. 20.
The program is designed to provide support to cancer patients as well as family, friends or caregivers in need of a listening ear or caring heart. Topics include faith, questions, healing, prayer, stress reduction, relationships, communication and healthy living. Cost of $20 includes the Cancer Companions workbook. Mount Washington United Methodist Church, 584 S. Arlington Ave., Independence, will have a community meal 5-6 p.m. Oct. 27, followed by “Trunk or Treat” 6-7:30 p.m. in front of the church. Liberty Street Community of Christ Church, 416 N. Liberty St., Independence, will host a free “trunk or treat” and free chili dinner 5-6 p.m. Oct. 28 in the south parking lot.
United Methodist hosting two events
United Methodist Church, 1800 Northern Boulevard, Independence, is having a Trunk or Treat from 2-4 p.m. Oct. 27, following the Independence Halloween Parade, and its Chili & Craft/Bake Sale Day on Nov. 3. The sale is 9 a.m.-5 p.m. that day, and food will be served 11 a.m.-5 p.m. The meal (chili or soup, with dessert) is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 4-12. Children under 4 are free.

Light the Night at Christ the Rock
Christ the Rock Church, 13901 E. Noland Court, Independence, will host its Light the Night Event from 6-8:30 p.m. Oct. 31. There will be hot dogs, hot cocoa and apple cider, popcorn, hayrides, trunk or treat, carnival games, a cake walk, raffle and face painting. The church building is next to B&D South Skate Center.
Craft show and business expo set
St. Mark's Catholic Church, 3736 Lee's Summit Road, Independence, is hosting its 13th annual Craft Show and Business Expo from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 4. Available items and services range from candles to lawn care and skin care. The craft show and business expo is a fundraiser for St. Mary's Youth Group, helping send students on mission trips.
