Voters in Sugar Creek will decide two election issues on Tuesday designed to save the city money.

One would change the two-year term for mayor to four years, and the other would change terms for aldermen to four years.

“The statutes allow us to do that, and we have talked about it for a long time,” Mayor Stan Salva said.

With the current two-year terms, elections are frequent, even though turnout is low. Those elections can cost up to $5,000 each.

Salva said many smaller cities around the state to doing the same thing.

“We’ll just see how the people feel,” he said. “If they want to do it, we’ll save a few bucks. If not, we’ll keep doing what we’re doing.”

Voting is from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day.
