Races decided in area’s small municipalities

Several small area communities decided races on Tuesday. Here is a look at each local race.

Sugar Creek

Mayor Stan Salva was unopposed for a seventh two-year term, receiving 179 votes. In Ward 1, Joseph D. Kenney Sr. was unopposed (106 votes), as was Stanley Sagehorn in Ward 2 (65 votes).

River Bend

Staci Smith (six votes) and Cheryl A. Wheeler (seven) were re-elected as trustees.

Voters approved a 3-cent-per-ton tax on the sale or manufacture of sand and related products. The vote was 7-0.

Levasy

Gene Milligan defeated Weldon Woodward 16-7 for an at-large alderman position.

In a separate race for the Board of Aldermen, the results were less clear, but it appeared that write-in candidate Kim Dyer (16 votes) and Gerald K. Friedrich (15 votes) edged Michael Cole (13 votes) for two seats on the board.

Lake Lotawana

Mayor Howard Chamberlin was unopposed for another term and got 177 votes. David Welsh (76 votes), Scott D. Miles (54) and Charles F. Falkenberg (77) were elected aldermen. Richard J. Schubert (199 votes) was elected city collector.

Sibley

Farron Brooker (46 votes) and Daniel Jeffries (51) were elected to the Board of Trustees.

Lake Tapawingo

Rocky Queen was unopposed in the race for mayor and was elected with 85 votes. All three candidates for the Board of Alderment also were unopposed: Larry McCue (22 votes) in Ward 2, Rod Pitts (29) in Ward 2, and Randall Altiser (35) in Ward 3.
