A man discovered a shoe with a sock inside it Tuesday afternoon on the bank of the Little Blue River, and now the Jackson County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

Sgt. Ronda Montgomery, spokesperson for the sheriff's office, said the man found the shoe a considerable distance downstream, or north, of where two kayakers discovered  skeleton remains of a hand about two weeks ago.

Montgomery said there have been rumors that the shoe contained a foot, but she wouldn't confirm that.

"We're waiting to analyze what it is this man found," she said.

Police and search teams have scoured an area on the Little Blue River just off R.D. Mize Road looking for signs to explain why a human hand was found along its banks. Sheriff Mike Sharp has crossed out the possibility that the hand belonged to Summer Shipp, a woman who went missing and was later found dead.

"Considering the search we conducted (regarding the human hand), we're looking into this new discovery," Montgomery said, adding that she saw only a picture of the shoe and said it was in bad condition and very old.
