The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has released a photo of a woman believed to be involved in a check fraud case.

In July, a Grain Valley woman reported to the sheriff’s office that several credit card convenience checks had been stolen from her mailbox or delivered somewhere else, according to Sgt. Ronda Montgomery of the sheriff’s office. The credit card company told the woman, whose name was withheld, the someone had been cashing the checks for large amounts. However, the exact location of where they were used is unknown.

During the investigation, authorities learned that some of the checks were cashed at a Bank Midwest inside Wal-Mart at 1000 N.E. Sam Walton Lane in Lee’s Summit.

The sheriff’s office did not disclose the amount of the cashed checks but said the amounts total several thousand dollars.

Surveillence footage captured the suspect believed to be involved in the crime. It was taken around noon on July 6 at the bank.

The suspect is described as a white female wearing a white tank top with long blonde hair pulled back into a ponytail and sunglasses on her head. The suspect is accompanied by a young juvenile male standing at the counter.

Montgomery said Thursday that no new information has become available since the media advisory was posted.

If anyone has information about the case or can identify the woman, call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS or the sheriff’s office at 816-524-4302.
