Grouchy Bear has been whining for two weeks, and if I don’t mention his name I am going to be in big trouble. He keeps looking at the articles and saying, “You haven‘t talked about me for a long time, and nobody is going to remember who I am.”
I have assured him he won’t be forgotten, but to keep him happy, I am going to make sure you hear something he did this past week. After listening to his whining regarding his imaginary loss of fame, I convinced him to go to Oak Grove with me and pig out on one of PT’s fattening, delicious pork tenderloins.
Once he had eaten “the whole thing” (plus a half order of onion rings), we went to Pinky’s Frozen Custard, 1100 S. Broadway, Oak Grove. Everyone needs to go to Pinky’s for some of the great ice cream. She has banana splits, sundaes, concretes and several types of cones. She even has sugar-free ice cream and toppings.
In the near future, they are planning on deli sandwiches, and even though I doubt that is anything the “Bear” would be interested in, I promise you he will go back for the ice cream.
Hopefully, since I have returned him to the public eye, I am out of the doghouse, but he is going to keep trying to take advantage as he just mentioned that he wants biscuits and gravy for breakfast tomorrow.
Last week I promised you a recipe for the absolutely awesome soup we had at the Sheraton Hotel in Arlington, Va. I received the following information from the people there.
Jim D., from the Mystery Dinner Playhouse at The Sheraton in Arlington, Va., sent a note explaining that the chef, who was from Europe, had returned to his position in his native country. He also says that he never uses amounts, just adds ingredients to taste. I think if you want to prepare a smaller recipe just try one of each vegetable and add the other ingredients according to taste.
Vegetable soup
Diced tomato
Diced onion
Diced celery
Diced zucchini
Diced yellow squash
Chopped fresh cilantro
Diced spanish onion
Chopped fresh parsley
V8 juice
Vegetable base
Cumin
Salt
Pepper
Diced green pepper
Diced carrots
Water
The cornbread recipe I obtained at another location is great with any meal, but especially beans, soups or stews.
Cornbread
1 cup sour cream
1 cup self rising corn meal
3 eggs (beaten first)
1 cup cream style corn
½ cup oil
pinch of salt
Mix and pour into square baking pan prepared with cooking spray. Bake at 450 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. This recipe can be used for 12 muffins.
That is about it for this week. If you run into Grouchy Bear while out shopping be sure and say hi. I want him to realize he is not forgotten.
See you next week
