Monday, April 12, and Thursday, April 15, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., CPR/AED class will be held at the Grain Valley Community Center at 713 Main St. behind City Hall.

Information covered will include heart disease, risk factors, prudent heart living and heart and lung function. Adult and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation, management of foreign body airway obstruction, pediatric and infant resuscitation also will be taught.

Use of the automated external defibrillator will be demonstrated. Information will consist of DVD instruction and practice on CPR manikins. Lifesaving techniques practiced are considered to be physically strenuous.

The class was designed especially for individuals who have a duty to respond, such as employees in the workplace; firefighters; police; airline personnel; security guards; teachers; massage therapists; personal trainers; lifeguards; child-care providers; family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death; and other lay rescuers who may need to respond to a cardiac emergency and learn how to use an automated external defibrillator.

After the completion of the course, participants in good standing will receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver AED course completion card; valid for two years.

The CPR/AED course will be offered on Monday, April 12 (registration deadline March 29) and Thursday, April 15 (registration deadline March 31) Classes on both dates will be from 6:30 till 9:30 p.m. at the Grain Valley Community Center at 713 Main St. behind City Hall.

2010 Spring Indoor Craft Show

Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 27, you won’t want to miss the 2010 Spring Indoor Craft Show which is scheduled to be held at the Grain Valley Community Center at 713 Main St. between 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Red Cross Babysitting Certification

Monday, May 10 and May 17 from 6 to 9 p.m., the American Red Cross will hold babysitting classes at the Grain Valley Community Center. The course is especially designed for students 11-15 years old.

Feeding, diapering, and holding a baby properly will be covered during the two-day session. Different methods of entertaining young children, which can be challenging at times, will be discussed. Also methods of interacting with both children and parents will be addressed. Students will be guided in finding safe babysitting jobs.

The cost for the two-day session is $50; each student will receive a handbook. Certificates will be awarded to those completing the course.
