“Wild About Harry,” the annual fundraising event for the Truman Library Institute, has earned a reputation as one of the region’s most inimitable events.

Praised for its unique ability to draw a diverse crowd from the Kansas City five-county metropolitan area and points beyond, the patriotic-themed gathering never fails to impress guests with its prestigious speakers and streamlined program. This year promises to be no exception as the “Wild About Harry” committee welcomes Susan Eisenhower and former Secretary of State James Baker to the April 8 event.

An expert on international security, international relations and energy, Eisenhower was recently appointed to serve on President Obama’s Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future, a 15-member panel.

Appointed by Secretary of Energy, Steven Chu, her selection marks the third time in as many presidential administrations that Eisenhower has served on Blue Ribbon panels related to nuclear issues. An esteemed authority on nuclear energy, she has written extensively on the topic and convened working groups to study and provide recommendations through the Eisenhower Strategy forum.

The granddaughter of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, she is President of the Eisenhower Group, Inc, which provides strategic counsel on political, business and public affairs projects and Chairman of the Eisenhower Institute’s Leadership and Public Policy Programs. Eisenhower often appears as an analyst on foreign and domestic policy on a variety of network and cable television news programs.

James Baker, who served in various capacities under President Ronald Reagan and President George H.W. Bush, will be honored at the event with the inaugural Harry S. Truman Legacy of Leadership Award.

The award has been developed by the Truman Library Institute to honor an individual who has demonstrated the outstanding leadership qualities of President Harry S. Truman.

Each year “Wild About Harry” endeavors to increase awareness of the legacy of President Truman and encourage participation in the events and programming funded by the Truman Library Institute, the non-profit partner of the Truman Presidential Library and Museum. For more than 40 years the Institute has collaborated with the Truman Library to fund and execute educational programs, special events and exhibits. Proceeds from the annual event support these initiatives and foster President Truman’s devotion to education and citizen engagement in local and national government.

Sponsorship opportunities are available beginning at $1,000 and may be obtained by visiting www.trumanlibary.org or calling 816-268-8237.  Individual tickets are priced at $150.00.

The event will be held at the Marriott Muehlbach Hotel in Kansas City beginning at 6:15 p.m.
