Kindergarten registration will be March 22 from noon to 7 p.m., March 23 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and March 24 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Grain Valley Community Center.
Remember to bring the following items, which must be presented at the time of registration for your child to be considered enrolled in kindergarten: state certified copy of birth certificate, child’s Social Security number, immunization card or copy, and a utility bill such as water, gas, and electric showing name and address.
Kindergarten registration benefits both the district and the incoming students. I spoke with a representative from the school board that stated the importance of getting the number of 2010-11 kindergarten students so they will be able to accommodate them by having enough class space and hiring teachers needed within the time frame available. That is pertinent to keeping classes from being over crowed.
There will be another kindergarten screening times and date to be announced. You will have an opportunity to sign up for a screening during registration. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, prescreenings are not being offered this year. If you have any questions call 816 847-5011.
The Grain Valley Community Center is behind City Hall on Main Street south of I-70. If you have any questions call 847-5011.
A Spring thing
As the long harsh winter comes closer to an end, little signs make it clear that spring is very near; such as the robins looking for nesting materials after their winter vacation away. Our favorite annuals are beginning to sprout up through the once frozen and snow-covered earth.
Along with all the wonderful things in nature that come along with changing seasons, people also change. For example, many of us choose to spend the majority of our time inside away from the strong winds and below freezing temperatures.
Each day as the sun gets brighter and we gain more daylight, the outdoors becomes more and more inviting.
With individuals and families going for walks/bike riding on or beside the recently icy/snow packed roads it is important drivers take extra caution.
Look twice before backing up or making a turn (either into a driveway or on to a different street) and keep an eye out for children playing in the driveway or close to the road. It could save a life. One preventable death is one too many.
Please drive safely!
