My issue with windows has nothing to do with computers

Have you ever replaced windows? Do you know all the choices that exist?

The windows on the front of our house are at least 30+ years old. They are Anderson windows and they look like they’ve grown past their 30-year promise. They are sagging, warped, and tired, like me. I believe my shower curtain could do a better job, in cold weather.

As a result, I felt it was time to check out the cost of replacing the windows.

I shot toward the stars and called the top of the line.  Let me say, it would be cheaper to replace the entire house, with the current market, than to install new windows. Those windows came fully loaded.

In fact, I expect those windows (from the prices I was quoted) to sing all four verses of “God Bless America,” in harmony!

So I regrouped and called the 1-800 window vendors advertised through local television commercial.

There, I received a quote of $179 for all four windows.

Consequently, I crossed 1-800 window vendor, off the list.

I next decided to give the local guys a chance. Within the first few phone calls, I had window quotes which ranged from $500 and $10,000.

Living outdoors, without windows, was becoming an interest to me.

In desperation, I called a friend, to get his opinion.  He said he’d check with a few distributors.

While waiting for my friend, I thought I’d check out the options at the local stores.

Within my first phone call, I was asked if I wanted double hung, single hung, gliders, screens, sliding, storm, matching skylights, insulated glass, LoE, comfort glass, vinyl, wood, or wood clad.

For an hour, the salesman rambled on, asking me for my choice of hardware and the name brand, which I desired.

Sometimes I cannot remember my own kids’ names. A brand of window was not in the memory.

Therefore, I decided to wait for my trusting friend, who is always fair to me.

My window shopping experience has been a growing one. May I conclude with a poem?

Windows must be strong and straight

And match in color, too.

I can’t decide, it’s getting late,

It’s cold, it’s icy, I’m blue.

What should I do, which window’s best?

Which choice is right for me?

No doubt, all would pass the test,

Cause, the old ones are whistling to me.
