Gaileen Jackson is the president of the Genuine Chevy GMC Truck club of Kansas City, which hosts the event – Car Cruise Nights – in Blue Springs.
For those who have never been to the Blue Springs event, what can they expect? A newcomer will see many many cars and trucks from the past. Many of these are in original condition and just out for a cruise and others are true hot rods and muscle cars. There are lots of folks to talk to, music, food, and fun for the whole family.
What other upcoming events are there that people may not be aware of? We have two more cruise nights for the 2010 season: This Saturday and on Oct 2. There are car events in every corner of the city, but we as a club will be hosting the 11th Annual Midwest All Truck Nationals in Riverside, Mo. On Sept. 10, 11, and 12, we will be hosting “Bigfoot,” a nationally known monster truck and a replica of the Truck (Snowman’s rig) from “Smokey and the Bandit.”
Why are these cars so popular? All of us have a memory of a car or truck in our lives, and it is good to remember that story of maybe we wanted one as a kid. The restored or created hot rods from yesterday are a work of art and fun for all to look at.
What’s the most unique car that has been displayed at Car Cruise Nights? There have been many unusual cars at cruise night to include a miniaturized Peterbilt over-the-road tractor, a Fiat that ET drove in, and a dual-engined Farmall tractor. You just never know what will turn up, you should be there just in case.
