Jerry Fowler, 53, Richmond, Mo., is running against four Republicans to determine who will face U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, currently representing the 5th District. He has a wife, Benecia, and they have 11 children, Susannah (Fowler) Blackstock, Rachel, Elijah, Isaiah, Joseph, Grace, Naomi, Malachi, Samuel, Matthew and Abigail.
He has worked as a senior technology architect for Cerner Corporation since 1984.
Fowler has no previous political experience.
He is running against Republicans Patrick Haake, Ralph Sheffield, Jacob Turk and Ron Shawd.
1 It’s a crowded Republican field. How do you separate yourself from the pack?
I differentiate myself from the other primary candidates in the fiscal and healthcare areas. I generally agree with the “Austrian” school of economics and have 26 years experience at Cerner Corporation in Health Care Information Technology.
2 Whoever wins will face an incumbent in a traditional Democratic district. How would you focus your message to voters against Congressman Cleaver?
Congressman Cleaver has befriended big government in opposition to the best interests of Missouri’s 5th District constituents. Through cap and trade, utility bills will “necessarily skyrocket” and there will be higher costs and lower quality with the healthcare legislation.
3 Job creation is a major issue this year. How would you bring jobs into the district and help return economic stability?
Federal spending and taxes must be reduced, and legislation restrictive to economic growth must be eliminated. In this uncertain business climate with higher taxes, most employers are reticent to expand due to increased operating costs.
