Ryan Fry, an attorney with Cochran, Oswald and Roam, will become the chairman of the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce in 2010. He was also an accomplished athlete, a prep baseball and football star at Oak Grove High School from 1991-1994 and all-American baseball player at University of Missouri.
1 You’re going to be assuming a new title in the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce come January. Tell us a little about it.
In that role, I am ultimately responsible to our chamber members and the board of directors. As chairman, I supervise the business affairs of the Chamber and preside over membership and board meetings.
2 How did you come to be interested in offering your services to the chamber?
I became interested in the Chamber of Commerce in a couple of ways: 1) I saw it as a great way to interact with the other business members and leaders of our community, and 2) Our firm (Cochran, Oswald & Roam) has a great track record of community involvement and service that I wanted to continue.
3 What unique abilities and/or talents will you bring to the chamber and this position specifically?
In my mind the biggest talent or ability that anyone can bring to this type of organization is an open mind to new ideas and a willingness to work. It is my full intent to utilize both of these qualities to serve our members and the board.
4 What would you like to accomplish in this position for the year 2010?
The overall goal heading into 2010 is to increase the Chamber’s importance and respectability in the business community and the community as a whole. We also have the specific goals of growing our membership and becoming nationally accredited in the upcoming year.
5 Enough of the chamber, tell us of your athletic accomplishments and how those accomplishment may transfer into your time at the chamber.
As clichéd as it sounds, I hope to bring the same team attitude and competitive nature to the Blue Springs Chamber as is required in athletics.
