Gladys Wagner, age 96, has wanted to meet President Bush every since he became President. When The Independence Manor started their Bucket List Program Gladys added her name to the list to see if her wish would come true. Activity Director Tracy Bunch has been trying to conact George W. Bush for two months with no results but is still trying.
Bunch thought it would be fun to have a Bush impersonator to come visit Gladys on April Fools Day but Brent Mendenhall,a profesional Bush impersonator would not be available until April 18 th when he then showed up at The Manor to surprise Gladys.
Mendenhall entered to Hail to the Chief and greeted a room full of Gladys’ friends and family.
He started his speech with” My name is George W. Bush, and I approve this Bucket List Program.” He continued with a comical speech and gave a tribute to Gladys’ life. Mendenhall stayed around after his speech to visit and take pictures with family and other residents.
The Bucket List Program was started after the residents watched the same titled movie with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman and discussed some things they had always wanted to do but never had the opportunity.
Items on the List include flying in an air plane, getting a tattoo, learnig to play the drums, piano, getting a G.E.D., meeting Chuck Norris, meeting Tiger Woods, getting a make over, having a first birthday party at age 82 and driving a car. Many items have been crossed off the list and more are added each month. The Independence Manor would like to thank those who help make these wishes become a reality.
