I started in Circus Town

When the doctor slapped me upside down

And told my Mother "Here's your clown,

May happiness replace his frown."

So I grew up in Circus Town

And traveled allt he roads around

I learned to laugh and be a clown

I love the life of Circus Town.

I chatted with the monkeys there

And hugged the chubby circus bear.

I lead the band with such a flair

And kissed the drummer's daughter, fair.

I heard, one day, the bugles call

And left the tents and shows and all;

And caused my sweetheart's tears to fall

As I marched off so strong and tall.

I crawled the hostile field of mud.

I tested steel and tasted blood;

And thought if ever now I could

Return to Circus Town, I would.

So questions come and answers tire,

I leave it thus: (Let fools inquire;

Devoted angels that mire

Beat all the devils Hell could hire.

I'm snuggled back in Circus Town

And travel all the roads around.

That "Someone" wore a wedding gown,

We pledged our love in Circus Town.

I started life in Circus Town

When the doctor slapped me upside down

And I'll be a leaping, laughing clown

Until the bring my curtain down.

I started in Circus Town

When the doctor slapped me upside down

And told my Mother "Here's your clown,

May happiness replace his frown."

So I grew up in Circus Town

And traveled allt he roads around

I learned to laugh and be a clown

I love the life of Circus Town.

And I'll be a leaping, laughing clown

Until the bring my curtain down.
