Grain Valley receives state grant

The city of Grain Valley has recieved a state grant designed to save energy and save money. The city is getting $14,000 to retrofit lights and heating-and-ventilatiion systems at three public buildings.  The Department of Natural Resources has awarded $11.3 million to 58 communities across the state, using federal stimulus money. The state says the grants will create 105 jobs, reduce energy costs and reduce pollution from energy production.

Gov. Jay Nixon came to Independence this week to announce one of the grants, $1 million for the city to use to improve wastewater treatment.
