An Independence man has pleaded guilty to federal child pornography charges.
Andrew E. Collier, 48, was indicted in April 2011 and pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Kansas City, according to the office of the U.S. attorney in the Western District of Missouri.
Authorities say Collier admitted using the Internet to download child pornography. Authorities examined his computer and on one hard drive found more than 600 pictures and 21 movies, many of which depicted men sexually abusing children under the age of 12.
Sentencing has not yet been scheduled, but Collier faces a mandatory five years – and up to 20 years – in federal prison without parole, as well as a fine of up to $250,000 and an order of restitution.
Independence police investigated the case, which was brought to court under Project Safe Childhood, a federal effort to stop child sexual exploitation and abuse.
