Two men – both wearing black bandanas over a portion of their faces – entered a home Wednesday night in Blue Springs, stealing multiple electronic items and traumatizing occupants.
No one was injured during the incident, which happened at about 10:50 p.m. Wednesday in the 2600 block of Northwest First Street, but a spokesperson for police said family members inside were traumatized.
Spokesperson Troy Pharr said the two suspects may have entered the home through an unlocked garage door. No forced entry could be found.
Pharr said one of the suspects kept the woman and her two children in a room, holding them at gunpoint, while the other stole several items, including electronics and a television.
“It was a scary deal for them,” Pharr said of the family, who were upstairs watching television when the mother heard a sound downstairs. “When she went downstairs, she confronted them.”
The first suspect was described as a white man in his 20s, with a smaller build with blonde hair wearing a black bandana over his lower face and wearing a white ball cap and a jean jacket, while the other was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, with a medium build with dark hair also wearing a black bandana over his lower face and wearing a jean jacket.
“When they were done, they just beat feet and left,” Pharr said, adding that police were unsure if they fled on foot or by car.
The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident please call police at 228-0151 or the TIPS Hotline.
Pharr said police don’t think the incident is related to other burglaries that have happened recently in the city.
“From what we can tell, it was just a random incident,” he said.
Other incidents – an armed robbery at a Sonic Drive In on South Missouri 7 earlier this week and a shooting two weeks ago that left one man in serious condition – remain unsolved.
The shooting victim has since returned home.
Police urge anyone with information about these events to call 228-0150.
