Ten arrested at checkpoint

The Independence Police Traffic Safety Unit conducted a sobriety checkpoint along Jackson Drive near Little Blue Parkway this weekend while simultaneously conducting a DWI saturation patrol in the southeast portion of Independence.


The operation began at 10 p.m. Friday and ended at 4 a.m. Saturday.


During that time 71 cars were checked, and 28 cars were stopped, with the following arrests or citations: 10 for driving while intoxicated, 21 for hazardous moving violations, two for no valid driver’s license, nine for other traffic violations, two for drug possession, seven for outstanding warrants and two for other alcohol violations.
