Some of those taking to train to or from St. Louis this week are in for a treat – riding in a dome car that affords better views as the train rolls through the countryside.
What Amtrak calls its “Great Dome” car is being used on the Missouri River Runner, which runs four times daily across the state – twice each way – connecting Kansas City and St. Louis, with stops in Independence, Lee’s Summit and six other cities. Seating is first come, first served.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the dome car will be used:
- On Tuesday’s morning train out of Kansas City. It leaves Union Station at 8:15 a.m., stops in Independence at 8:34 and arrives in St. Louis at 1:55 p.m.
- On Wednesday’s morning train out of St. Louis, departing at 9:15 a.m., stopping in Independence at 2:20 p.m. and arriving in Kansas City at 2:55.
- On Thursday’s morning train out of St. Louis and then the afternoon train headed back to St. Louis. That’s the one that leaves Union Station at 4, stops in Independence at 4:19 and arrives in St. Louis at 9:40.
