A Blue Springs man pleaded guilty Monday morning to molesting three girls, ages 11 to 13.
Richard G. Burroughs, 44, pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree child molestation. He agreed to a sentence of 15 years. He will be evaluated by the Department of Corrections Sex Offender Assessment Unit and he will be formally sentenced Aug. 27.
Burroughs, who coached girls soccer, admitted to molesting two of the girls at his home and the third at the girl’s home.
According to police documents, a mother told police that her 12-year-old daughter had spent the night at Burroughs’ home in October or November of 2011 because she was a friend of Burroughs’ daughter. During the night, Burroughs is alleged to have entered the room and put his hand down her pants and touched her privates.
The victim later told her friend, Burroughs’ daughter, who told her she must have been dreaming.
Another victim, an 11-year-old girl, told a school counselor that Burroughs, her soccer coach, had touched her inappropriately while sleeping over at his home on New Year’s Eve. Police documents state that he rubbed her chest with his arm while reaching across her while she was on the computer.
Both victims were players on a local youth soccer team, which Burroughs coached for about five years. They told each other their stories and decided to tell the school counselor.
Police questioned Burroughs and asked him if they could look on his computer, to which Burroughs “got quiet and appeared nervous,” according to court documents. He told police he would consult an attorney.
A police spokesperson for Blue Springs police said Burroughs had coached a recreational league that is not associated with the Blue Springs School District. He also coached softball.
