The Oak Grove woman whose granddaughter died after she was poisoned by carbon monoxide has also died.

Joyce M. Bentley, 62, passed away last Friday at the Kansas City Hospice House, the result of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Emergency crews were called to the 100 block of Dogwood Street on Aug. 16. They found Megan Wyatt, 17, dead in a bedroom. Crews also found 16-year-old Robin Ferguson, a friend of Wyatt, unconscious but alive.

Bentley was also found unresponsive but still alive. Bentley and Ferguson were rushed to Kansas City area hospitals in critical condition. Bentley remained in the intensive care unit until she was transferred to the Kansas City Hospice House.

Ferguson was released after being treated.

Investigators found a vehicle running in the closed garage of the apartment. The vehicle pumped the odorless, colorless carbon monoxide fumes into the apartment unit.

Oak Grove police said Tuesday there is no new information, except that information has been sent to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
