Marti Moore, Mary Anna Wood and Katherine O’Leary, all Independence Senior Girl Scouts, will board a train on their way to the National Girl Scout Round Up in Colorado Springs. They are members of Troop 54, which is sponsored by the First Christian Church.

Sharon Tally, 16, a junior at Van Horn High School last year, will represent the Inter-City district in a contest to select “Miss Jackson County.” Miss Tally, daughter of Mrs. Mildred Tally, was recently awarded the title “Miss Inter-City.” Named as attendants were Miss Peggy Maness and Miss Mary Ellen Denman.

Mrs. Lois E. Harrison, who has had 18 years of experience as a home economist, becomes a member of the staff of the Jackson County Extension Service, 123 E. Kansas Ave.. Miss Harrison, who has been in extension work since 1947, both in Missouri and Arizona, will fill the post as home economist and marketing, being vacated by Mrs. Betty Bay.

G.L. “Lennie” Thacker was elected commander of the Tirey J. Ford Post of the American Legion, succeeding Fred Pimblott as commander. Other officers are first vice commander, W.G. Robbins; second vice commander, G.W. Wildschutz; adjutant, Dan Kasmerchek; finance officer, Emil Oeser; sergeant-at-arms, Delmer Balmer; service officer, Dexter Perry; chaplain, James Culter; trustee, Les Cox Sr.; and historian, Charles Woodward.
