The Grain Valley Police Department will conduct another Citizens Police Academy starting April 4.

The 12-week session is designed to give citizens an experience in the inner world of law enforcement and a firsthand look at the daily operations of the police department.

Citizens will receive classroom instruction and participate in the department’s Ride-Along program. Topics include uniformed patrol, crime scene investigations, narcotics investigations, prosecution, federal agencies (FBI and ATF), bomb squad, police K-9, accident investigations, street gangs, swat/tactical, firearms safety and training and mock crime scene scenarios.

This training is provided at no cost to community members. Citizens who are 21 years of age or older who pass a background check may attend.

Classes will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays from April 4 to June 19, except for the week of April 4, when class will meet on a Wednesday. Most classes will meet at the community center, 713 Main Street in Grain Valley. One class will involve firearms training at an area firing range.
