A Grandview man charged in connection with a former Independence resident’s murder last month was arrested Thursday night after he eluded police officials for more than three weeks.
Calvin A. Boswell, 24, was charged with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault and four counts of armed criminal action in the shooting of Ashley Thomas and two men.
Boswell, the alleged shooter, was charged in the incident following the shooting death of Ashley Thomas, who grew up in Independence and graduated from Truman High School in 2003.
An FBI fugitive task force arrested Boswell on Thursday night, according to KCTV 5.
Ashley Thomas, 25, her 19-year-old boyfriend, Darryl Pickens, and her boyfriend’s cousin were sitting in a parked car outside her apartment building east of Armour Boulevard and Tracey Avenue in midtown Kansas City on Nov. 20 during the shooting, according to KCTV.
Thomas and her 9-month-old fetus, Amya McKenzie Thomas, were pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The shots also seriously injured Thomas’ boyfriend, the father of the unborn child.
Lionel R. Henderson, 25, of Kansas City, was arrested on Nov. 21 and was charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of first-degree assault, along with three counts of armed criminal action.
Detectives believe Henderson acted as the lookout person during the shooting.
