An Oak Grove man was seriously injured Sunday afternoon when the car he was riding in ran off Interstate 70 just east of Route BB at Grain Valley.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a 2003 Ford driven by David Z. Haynie, 20, of Grain Valley was eastbound on I-70 about 3:15 p.m. when it ran off the right side of the road and hit a ditch. It then crossed over to the outer road and hit a concrete berm.

Passenger Justin V. Sabin, 30, of Oak Grove was taken to Truman Medical Center-Hospital Hill with serious injuries. Haynie had minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene, the patrol reported.

Neither man was buckled in. The investigation continues, and charges are pending, the patrol reported.
