The makeover of Santa Fe Road/McCoy Street between 23rd Street and 31st Street continues, and Independence city officials have announced another round of street closings because of the project.
The city will close Santa Fe Road between 27th and 29th Streets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday. Traffic will be routed around the blocks where the street is closed.
The Santa Fe Road/McCoy Street is the gateway to Santa Fe Park. The roadway will become a two-lane street with new curbs, a storm drainage system and a shared bicycle/pedestrian path along the east side. The upgrade also includes adding a lane as the street approaches 23rd Street to provide separate left and right turn lanes.
Work started in early January and is scheduled for completion in December. The nearly $3 million project is funded with street and storm water sales tax funds and Water Department funds.
