Jackson County’s annual Christmas in the Sky program, with fireworks and other entertainment, is tonight kicking off the Christmas in the Park that runs every night through Dec. 31.

The event is free. Tonight’s festivities include a stage show at 6 p.m., fireworks at 7:40 p.m., followed by drive-through Christmas In The Park. It’s at Longview Park, and the gates open at 5 p.m.

To get there, take Interstate 470 to Raytown Road, then turn south and take Raytown Road to the Longview Lake beach entrance. Follow the signs from there.

Christmas in the Park consists of 175 holiday lighted displays put up at Longview campground. People drive through to see the displays, and the event draws long lines. It’s free, though volunteers from local non-profits stand at the exit gates, passing out candy and taking any donations people choose to make.

Hours are 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
