A Napton, Mo., resident and two-term Republican state senator came to Blue Springs Wednesday to announce his candidacy for the 4th Congressional District.

Bill Stouffer, a life-long farmer, made the announcement at Zarda Bar-B-Q in Blue Springs Wednesday concerning his candidacy for the 4th District, which covers much of western Missouri, including a portion of eastern Blue Springs.

“As a fourth-generation Missouri farmer, I never planned on being involved in politics,” Stouffer said in a release issued by his office. “Watching what is happening in Washington, and with the sharp left-turn Ike Skelton has taken, I’ve arrived at a simple conclusion: enough is enough.”

Born and raised in Missouri, Stouffer is a fourth generation Saline County farmer. He graduated from the University of Missouri College of Agriculture and served on MFA’s Board of Directors for 16 years, including eight years as the board’s chairman.

“As I travel the district, I constantly hear that folks have simply had enough of the same old Washington style politics,” he said.  “They’ve had enough of big government, enough wasteful spending and enough of Ike Skelton consistently saying ‘yes’ to Nancy Pelosi’s liberal agenda.”

Citing a Washington Post article that said Skelton has voted a liberal agenda 97 percent of the time, Stouffer said the time for change is needed.

“Missourians across the state are speaking out against Ike Skelton’s votes for a cap-and-trade plan that would skyrocket our electric bills by 90 percent; they have demanded accountability for out of control bailouts and have rallied against government-run health care,” Stouffer explained.

“I cannot stand by any longer and watch Ike Skelton turn farther left and cast more votes against Missouri’s interests… that is why I am running to replace him in Washington.”

Stouffer will visit Marshfield, Missouri, and Jefferson City to announce his candidacy.

He lives in Napton with his wife, Sue Ellen. They have two sons and four young grandchildren.
