Drivers using Stroke Road in eastern Independence will need to find another route starting Thursday. Strode Road will close for around five months between Bradford Lane and Redtail Drive South. The closure will begin at 7 a.m. so crews can demolish the old Strode Road Bridge and build a new bridge over Burr Oak Creek. The existing bridge is in poor condition and has a load limit that prevents some fire equipment from crossing.
The new $1.2 million bridge will be two lanes wide with a sidewalk along the south side. The sidewalks will be extended to provide a connection between the Canterbury Trails and Erin Glen subdivisions. The project is funded with street sales tax funds and license surcharge funds. Construction on the project started April 30 and will take an estimated five months. The road will remain closed until the project is complete.
