A singer whose Christmas song was nominated for a Grammy award will give a special performance in Blue Springs Sunday night.

And Larry Jeffries thinks that’s pretty cool.

Judy Pancoast, whose song “The House On Christmas Street” was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Musical Album for Children category, will bring her voice and holiday cheer to Jeffries’ home at 2112 N.E. Waterfield Drive. The 7 p.m. performance is part of her international “The House On Christmas Street” tour.

She was one of five selected nominations out of a field of over 100 international entries.

The event is free and anyone is invited. Donations made will go to the Salvation Army.

For Jeffries, the concert will give him the opportunity to bring what he calls an “old fashioned Christmas” to his home and neighborhood.

And the opportunity to show off his lights – all 11,000 of them.

The lights and decorations are part of the reason why Pancoast is coming to his home, which is her only Missouri stop. When he found out via Youtube.com that Pancoast was looking for volunteers to host her Christmas concerts on their front lawns, Jeffries leaped at the chance.

Pancoast calls the property owners hosting her shows “extreme Christmas decorators.”

That’s accurate for Jeffries, who at one time while living in Wichita had 100,000 lights on his home. His neighbor had 100,000 lights as well. And another neighbor. And another. Out of 210 homes in that development, 206 decorated their homes.

“You could stand outside in the middle of the night and read a newspaper,” he said. “It was something.”

This year is only the second year Jeffries has decorated his Blue Springs home. Last year the home was modestly decorated, but this year he added and added: As many as 7,000 lights are LED and the remaining 4,000 are incandescent.

“The lights run off my computer,” he said, adding that the lights and decorations will be choreographed to the music. “Technology has really improved and there is lots of shimmering, twinkling.”

Pancoast’s 24-stop tour began in late November, and she’ll be traveling non-stop until Christmas Eve.

Caught by phone on Thursday in Washington state, Pancoast said she would be traveling to Montana on Friday, Minnesota on Saturday and Missouri on Sunday.
“It should be a lot of fun,” Pancoast said.

Those driving by the house during the concert can tune their  radios to 87.9 FM. The show will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday and will feature a full concert from Pancoast (about an hour), as well as an appearance by Frosty the Snowman. Pancoast will also sign autographs following the show.

“It will be a great family-friendly event,” Jeffries said. “So everyone, bring the family, dress warm and be prepared for fun. I hope as many people as possible show up.”
