Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers spent much of Wednesday investigating a multi-vehicle accident that shut down eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 early Wednesday afternoon.
The highway patrol has not released official information on the crash and troopers were unavailable Wednesday evening. A patrol dispatcher said troopers were extremely busy working numerous wrecks, including a fatality in Cass County. Many of the crashes, the dispatcher said, were non-injury.
Wednesday marks the busiest travel day of the year in the United States.
At 1:20 p.m., a Toyota Camry made contact with a Chevrolet Suburban that was pulling a boat. The driver of the Camry lost control and hit the boat that detached from the Suburban. The SUV flipped, according to KMBC 9 news.
The Suburban’s driver suffered severe injuries and was air lifted to St. Luke’s Hospital. A passenger was taken to Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence with less traumatic injuries, according to the report.
The Camry’s driver fled the scene but was caught in Grain Valley, according to KMBC.
