With the school year winding down, Blue Springs is on the final leg of filling open administrators positions throughout the district.
The Blue Springs Board of Education approved three new administrators Monday.
The district is losing three longtime elementary principals this year – Al Michelson, Cordill-Mason; Jill Johnston, Lucy Franklin; and Debbie Curtis, John Nowlin. These retirements have caused a shift of district administrators, including new hires and transfers.
“We are losing principals at some of our largest buildings next year,” Superintendent Paul Kinder said. “There will definitely be some change, but we have some good people in place.”
Ashlee Cochran will become the assistant principal at Brittany Hill Middle School. She is currently a language arts teacher at Moreland Ridge Middle School and is been in education for seven years.
Jonathan Wes McCubbin will become the assistant principal at Sunny Vale Middle School. He is now a science teacher at Brittany Hill and has spent the last six years in the Blue Springs district. He also taught in the Lone Jack and Holden districts.
Douglas Mattson is returning to be the assistant principal at Blue Springs South High School. He has 18 years of experience in education and is currently an assistant principal and activities director in the Kearney School District. He was an assistant principal at South from 2007 to 2011.
