Two Independence men were injured during a prisoner transport Tuesday night.

Dustin Smith, 29, and Mark Mullendore, 26, suffered minor injuries after the prisoner van, operated by Zachary Dial, 25, struck a deer near Swafford Road in Ray County at about 9 p.m.

Dial was westbound on Missouri 10 when he struck the deer, according to another published article.

Both men were taken to Lafayette County Regional Hospital.

It was not immediately known Wednesday where the men were being transported or what their offenses were.
