The Mid-Continent Public Library is sponsoring its first Home-school Expo this week.
The event will be from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the library’s new Genealogy Center, 3440 S. Lee’s Summit Road in Independence. It is free and open to the public.
The goal is to show patrons that there are 19 Mid-Continent branches that offer special programming to home-schoolers in a program called “Discovery Club.” Patrons will be able to visit booths, participate in activities or view the programs available.
In addition, there will be door prizes and other activities to show that the library does offer services to home-school families.
Special programs include “Mr. Stinky Feet” with Jim Cosgrove, children’s author Christine Taylor-Butler, database classes, tours of the Genealogy Center, story-time and crafts and clowns and face painting. There will also be booths from Steamboat Arabia, Burr Oak Woods, the Independence Police Department and Families for Home Education.
