Grain Valley student recognized in essay contest

Natalie Hansen, a fifth grader at Matthews Elementary in Grain Valley, was honored for her essay on “Why I Am Proud to Pledge Allegiance to Our Flag.”

The contest, which was sponsored by the Blue Springs Elks Lodge No. 2509, was open to students in the Grain Valley and Blue Springs school districts.

Natalie placed second in the contest and received $100. Her essay will now be sent onto the state level for judging.
