In case you forgot, David Cook fans, next week is the week.
First, the city of Blue Springs and the Missouri Department of Transportation plan to install two signs acknowledging Cook and his hometown.
The signs, which will be installed along both the eastbound and westbound roadways of Interstate 70 at the city limits, will read: “Blue Springs, Home of David Cook, American Idol 2008.”
Merideth Parrish, spokesperson for the city, said the signs could be installed as early as Monday afternoon, but no later than noonTuesday.
“The concrete blocks are already in,” Parrish said Friday afternoon. “We’re waiting for the next step. A lot of it has to do with the weather.”
Mayor Carson Ross said in a news release that installing the signs represents a “positive and momentous occasion for Blue Springs, and illustrates the city’s pride in the 2008 ‘American Idol’ winner.”
“This is great time not only for Blue Springs,” said Ross, “but also for the many young men and women in our community who aspire to achieve great things, just as our own David Cook has done.
“David is a positive role model,” Ross continued, “and a true testament of what can happen when people believe in themselves, are embraced by their community, and work hard to accomplish their dreams and goals. David is certainly America’s Idol, but he is also Blue Springs’ hometown hero.”
Prior to Cook’s concert at the Ameristar Casino in North Kansas City, Ross will present Cook with a replica of one of the highway signs.
Council Members Jeanie Lauer and Sheila Solon also plan to attend the pre-concert event at the Ameristar Casino.
The concert, scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., is sold out.
