Among city business discussed at the Buckner City Council meeting Thursday night, a topic of much consideration was whether to install a stop sign at the intersection of Hudson Street and Lake City.
At the intersection there exists a yellow light signaling drivers to yield to oncoming traffic. However, due to at least one traffic accident and public support, the city discussed the need to replace the light with a three-way intersection.
“People on Lake City aren't obeying the signs there,” Board of Alderman member Jeff Arntz said. “It might only make a difference if police sit there (to watch traffic).”
Support came from members of the Buckner Police Department as well as a Buckner resident who were at the meeting. The motion to add the stop sign was tabled for consideration at the study session July 16.
An agenda item of interest included a proposal to hire a vendor, Marco Seabra of Blue Springs, to redesign the city's Web site.
Discussion included benefits to both the general public and city administrators. If approved, the city would be able to make the Web site look more modern by uploading photos, calendars of events and other materials of public interest. Consideration of the motion included the status of the existing Web host vendor and whether there was a conflict in hiring a new vendor. Further consideration will be given at the city's next study session.
Other city business included adding a new member to the Buckner Park Board, Lindsey Thorpe, a recent graduate from William Jewell College.
