You have a business in Blue Springs. Can you tell us a little about it? House and Renner Const, Inc is a full line remolding company located at 5403 W. U.S. 40 in Blue Springs.  We have a Residential and Commercial division and a custom cabinet shop.  On the residential side, we specialize in kitchen, bath, basement, window replacement and room additions. On the commercial end we do a lot of tenant finish to ground buildouts.

The firm recently won an award. What was it for? House and Renner Construction, Inc. is a member of Kansas City Chapter of NARI, the National Association of the Remolding Industry.  NARI host an annual Remodel of the Year Awards and we entered a tenant finish on an orthodontist office for Dr. Jo Hansen in Lee’s Summit.  This involved an unusual and elaborate build out in a 100-year-old building.  We took first place in the Commercial Tenant Finish over $100,000.00 division and Best of the show over $250,000.00.

Obviously the economy has presented challenges to all aspects of home building. Are more people renovating instead of building? How has the economy affected your firm? The economy has had a definite impact on our business.  While our gross sales are down, our residential side remains strong. This is because more people are choosing to remain in their current homes.  We have been blessed to be able to keep our long-term employees busy through the winter months.

Can you tell us a brief history of the firm – has it always been in Blue Springs?House and Renner Construction was formed in 1983 by Harvey House and myself, two former industrial arts teachers.  We worked out of our basements until we grew too big. About 10 years ago we purchased renovated and added on to our location at 5403 West U.S. 40 in Blue Springs.

Are there any renovation/improvement projects in Blue Springs that you’d like to try your hand at?Being a full line general contractor we are able to handle a diversified array of projects.  Our projects range in size from a few thousand to well over a million dollars. We have the knowledge and expertise to handle your next construction project.  Visit us at www.houserennerconst.com, or http://www.houserennerconst.com/
