An Independence man has been charged with strong-armed robbery following an incident in a local library bathroom.

Police said a man entered the bathroom at the Mid-Continent Public Library South Independence Branch on 35th Street at about 11:16 a.m. on June 13 when he was confronted by two black males.

When the victim was about to leave, the two men reportedly blocked the door. The victim was then struck in the head and someone pulled his iPad from his arm, striking him again. He suffered minor injuries.

The men ran from the bathroom and left the building.

An hour later, police identified one of the men walking with a group of other men. He stopped and questioned him, and at one point he ran. The officer threatened  to use a stun gun, but the suspect surrendered.

All three were taken into custody, though only Eddy Dorbignit was charged. The two remaining suspects were juveniles and their names were not released.

Dorbignit was arraigned before Judge Marco Roldan, who set his bond at $100,000.
