The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday charged a Kansas City police officer with promoting prostitution after authorities arrested him in Independence.
Jacques A. Baker, 23, of Independence, was charged with third-degree promoting prostitution, a felony.
Baker has worked as a KCPD detention facility officer since 2008. The department has suspended him without pay.
The Independence Police Department helped investigate because the alleged incidents happened at Baker’s home in the 3100 block of Byrn Mawr Drive.
No details of the incidents were available Wednesday evening other that the Kansas City Police Department’s statement that none happened in a police facility. Police did a background check on Baker before hiring him, and he had no criminal history and “no indication that he would be engaged in criminal activity,” according to KCPD.
