A team of four young women representing the state of Missouri placed 1st in the nation the weekend of Nov. 7 in Louisville, Kentucky at the National 4-H Horse Bowl Competition. Members of the team included Halle Wild, Nicole Bricker, Hannah Burnett, and Alyssa Reynolds. Halle, Nicole, and Alyssa are members of Jackson County 4-H and Hannah is a member of Clinton County 4-H.
Horse Bowl is a knowledge based game in which two teams, with four members each, are in a head to head competition. A moderator reads a horse related question and the individual that buzzes in first attempts to answer the question correctly.
The Missouri team competed against 21 other teams from across the nation in a double elimination tournament format. After 8 games, the last 2 of which were against the team from New York who had beaten Missouri in an earlier round, Missouri defeated the New York team 18 to 0 and 23 to 2 to claim the championship.
It was also announced at an award ceremony on Sunday that Nicole Bricker placed 3rd and Halle Wild placed 6th in individual points scored.
Dr. Cynthia Calbert of Lee’s Summit coached the team.
Calbert and Greg Bricker are the parents of Nicole Bricker. Halle Wild is the daughter of Tim and Jackie Wild of Kansas City. Dave and Diane Reynolds of Independence are the parents of Alyssa Reynolds. Hannah Burnett is the daughter of Duane Burnett of Cameron, Mo.
