It was an electrical malfunction that sparked a fire that caused an estimated $150,000 in damages to a historic home in Grain Valley last week.

“It was electrical in nature,” said assistant chief Eddie Saffel of the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District.

One wing of the massive mansion,  just south of Grain Valley on the Sni-A-Bar Farm, caught fire. The owner is Steve Gildehaus, a developer with projects all over Eastern Jackson County.
