Smoke drifting from a house fire on 22nd Street in Blue Springs led some to believe that a church was on fire.
Todd Farley, assistant chief with the Eastern Jackson County Fire Protection District, said an accidental fire at 401 S.W. 22nd Street caused some damage to an attic early Tuesday morning.
The call came in at 1:20 a.m. and firefighters arrived to a home filled with smoke. Finding the source of the fire, firefighters were able to contain it in about 20 minutes.
But with humidity levels high outside, Farley said the smoke drifted over to the Kingdom Hall, at 15th and Vesper streets.
“Someone saw the smoke and assumed it was a fire,” Farely said. “They called 911 – which is what they were supposed to do. We’re glad they did.”
The 22nd Street home was occupied at the time of the fire, he said.
“They were able to get out in time, and there were no injuries,” Farley said.
